The goal of this article was to analyze the definition of consent for sexual contact in order to understand this contract and the context in which it is negotiated. This critical literature review analyzed the construct of consent in the research. Articles reviewed focused on understanding sexual assault and violations along a spectrum of coercion. This article aimed to shed light on the consent through a systemic lens by exploring how people are socialized to understand consent negotiation. Additionally, the demographic of each study was reviewed to give a comprehensive picture of who has historically been given a voice to define consent and violation. This data is discussed within the backdrop of the #MeToo movement.
