The inclusion of industrial and organizational psychology theory is important to improve knowledge beyond an individual's performance in sports. There are questions around the National Football League for not being efficient in the prediction of a drafted player's success due to players over the years becoming bigger, faster, and stronger. The National Football League currently uses a psychological assessment that is the Wonderlic/general mental ability test as part of their scouting combine. The theoretical framework is that general mental ability assessments have been the most consistent predictor of performance in the traditional workplace for over 100 years. The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive power of Wonderlic on National Football League scouting combine performance, draft pick, and post-draft achievements. Prior academic research to identify if Wonderlic was a predictor of player performance has been inconclusive. The researcher collected Wonderlic and performance data from online websites for National Football League players drafted between 2012-2017. This quantitative correlational study with regression analysis resulted in the Wonderlic not being a significant predictor the National Football League performance metrics. The findings provided empirical evidence that Wonderlic is not a significant predictor in post-draft performance and builds a case to expand this study in partnership with the National Football League to further research the entire drafted population.
