Background: Social Networking Sites (SNS) are virtual environments that allow participants to connect and interact with each other via the internet. Mobile learning is a learning paradigm that uses mobile devices through different SNS or applications to deliver education. SNS and mobile learning are becoming embedded in most people's everyday activities.Objective: The objective was to investigate whether the use of SNS as a mobile learning tool for RNs can be adopted for use by registered nurses.Methods: Using the Technology Acceptance Model as a framework, the survey questionnaire developed by Lau (2011) to look at Web 2.0 tools was adapted to look at SNS-based mobile learning. Data from inpatient nurses (n = 98) were collected for 1 month. Independent samples t-tests and logistic regression were used for data analysis. Results: Nurses who use SNS more frequently have a higher perceived ease of use relative to nurses who do not use SNS (t = −2.83; df = 94; p = 0.006). Nurses who useSNS more frequently also have a higher perceived usefulness of SNS (t = −2.92; df = 94; p = 0.004). Age and gender did not affect perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, or use of SNS.Conclusions: The perceptions of SNS use in RNs may shape how education is delivered in the clinical setting. It can also affect future policy in healthcare regarding the use of mobile devices for dissemination and acquisition of information via SNS.
