This study used a mixed methods approach to explore the relationship between exercise frequency, emotional wellbeing, and occupational functioning. Seventy-four participants fully completed the online survey and six of these participants were contacted for follow-up interviews. Consistent with previous research, results from this study suggest that regular physical activity can improve mood and affect, life satisfaction, stress management, self-esteem, self-confidence, and overall mental health. Significant associations were also found between exercise frequency and productivity, work impairment, activity impairment, presenteeism and absenteeism. This study expands upon previous research that has examined the relationships between exercise and isolated indicators of mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Results suggests that workplace fitness and wellness programs have the ability to improve employees' physical and emotional health, as well as enhance cognitive functioning, productivity, efficiency, and overall job performance. Such programs can also foster more supportive relationships amongst employees, boost workplace morale, and help to reduce absenteeism and employee healthcare costs.
