The purpose of this study is to illuminate the relationship between risk propensity and resilience in the workplace. Past research purporting to study employee risk propensity and employee resilience has illustrated the significance of each paradigm independently. The overall goal of this thesis is to address the contemporary understanding of each construct independently and concurrently and identify pathways for the future advancement of employee risk taking and employee resilience. This study reports conceptual definitions and philosophies of each concept both in and out of organizational psychology. Results of the correlational study concluded that risk propensity is not a consequence of the individual's perception of his or her resilience but of the individual's mood, positive affect, and negative affect. The finding denoted different results than what was initially hypothesized. Expecting that propensity to risk taking will predict resilience in organizational contexts beyond the contributions of positive and negative affect in the workplace, the results did not confirm the hypothesis. The study concludes with recommendations for future prospective research studying employee resilience in the workplace, including using longitudinal design, broadening the study to various occupations, and addressing the significance of resilience and positive affect and negative affect to managers, consultants, and organizations for the positive psychological development of employees. This research contributes to the understanding of individual and organizational resilience; resilience is vital not only to enhance organizational productivity but also to foster workplace psychological well-being.
