Physical inactivity among children has led to obesity in adulthood which is an epidemic across the United States. Physical education is one way that students can gain knowledge on how to be healthy and physically active not only in school, but also throughout their lives. The problem addressed in this study is that students' attitudes toward physical education begin to decrease in high school so a teachers' self-identified value orientations may be critical to students' engagement in physical education classes. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to identify if there was a relationship between secondary physical education teachers' value orientations and students' attitudes toward physical education, controlling for gender and grade level. The convenience sample was 12 high school physical education teachers and 633 high school students from a high school in an eastern state. There were two instruments that were used in the data collection. The SAtPE instrument uses questions with Likert type answers, which measured students' attitudes towards physical education. The second instrument used, VOI-SF, identified teachers' value ordinations, which has 50 questions broken down into 10 rank order sets. Findings were that students' attitudes were overall positive; while male students' showed statistically significance difference in high attitudes than female students (p<.05). Also, that no significant differences were identified students' attitude and teachers' value orientations and teacher gender. One recommendation for future research is to conduct study focusing primarily on physical education teachers' attitudes towards physical education.
