Because of the fitness boon that exists in society, many individuals have decided to incorporate some type of fitness activity into their daily routines. The fitness industry offers many types of suggested exercises and benchmarks for people over age 60; however, there exists a wide-array of suggestions when addressing people of this age group. This Delphi study sought opinions and ideas from a panel of experts in the South-Central Florida region who were considered experts in health and fitness to determine consensus about three themes: (a) what were the most important benchmarks in fitness for people over 60, (b) what are the most important common exercises in fitness most important for people over 60, and (c) what were the most important assessment measures for people over age 60. A three-round Delphi technique was used for data collection. From the data, three themes of agreement emerged: (1) quality of life and adherence to fitness programs are the most important benchmarks in fitness for people over 60, (2) basic resistance and balance exercises are the most important exercises for people over 60, and (3) body circumference measurements(BMI) or lean mass index are the most important assessment measures for people over 60.
