The Philippines is a developing nation, currently in the midst of social and political change. Despite being a mostly traditional, predominately Christian country, Filipino women benefit from increased gender equity compared to those living in other Asian countries, affording them opportunities that may elude them elsewhere. These studies apply the stress process framework to a survey dataset of married women in the Philippines to explore the impacts of three groups of predictors upon their mental health. Results suggest that, despite the partially elevated status of women living in the Philippines compared to those living in other Asian countries, gender-linked forces still exert influence upon their mental health, potentially as an extension of social dynamics, networks of support, and ability to manage stress.
