Seniors are an important part of the United States as they hold approximately 77% of the country's wealth. As the senior market grows, seniors are having a different attitude about their health, quality of life, and money. Seniors today demand more and want more; they expect a better quality of activities and a higher level of services and amenities than in the past (U.S. Census Bureau, 2014). The problem researched in this study focused on if inter generational factors or influences changed a senior's perspective from staying in the family home over relocating to a community living environment (Thaichon, 2016). Twelve total participants were interviewed for this qualitative phenomenological study (Sisson, 2016). The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of seniors and find how the impact of these inter generational influences affected them when it came to their long-term housing and care choices (Leedy & Ormrod, 2005). With this information the researcher was able to develop recommendations for community care providers that can help in facilitate stronger relations with the residents. The things seniors want for a community and home-based setting is an independent life-style, continuum of care, care management, nursing care, transportation and wellness/exercise programs. This research can be used to assist leaders in the independent living, assisted living or long-term care business to frame future care delivery models more efficiently and effectively while delivering what senior's want. By proceeding with this qualitative study, the researcher is hopeful to benefit leaders that work within the senior services industry to develop strategic plans that addresses the needs of seniors, as well as generational cohorts. These questions advanced knowledge on the inter generational differences between senior and immediate family members by using similar queries to test for expected and perspective differences. This research study included a final comparison on the many perspectives to know how, if at all, the inter-generational differences modify the decision-making process of the elderly when transitioning into an independent living community. By 2050, the senior population is projected to reach 83.7 million. This older population places a burden and stress on families as our population moves away from traditional institutional care settings and more toward home and community based environments. Twelve total participants were interviewed for this qualitative phenomenological study. The problem researched in this study was to find if inter generational influences changed a senior's perspectives regarding too few delivery systems that make room for a growing, aging population through community-based care settings at an affordable price that can increase and enhance a senior's quality of life (Sisson, 2016). The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of seniors and find how the impact of these intergenerational influences affected them when it came to their long-term housing and care choices (Leedy & Ormrod, 2005). With this information the researcher was able to develop recommendations for community care providers that can help in facilitating a senior needs and housing requests. The things seniors want for a community and home-based setting is an independent life-style, continuum of care, care management, nursing care, transportation and wellness/exercise programs. By proceeding with this qualitative study, the researcher hopes to assist leaders that work with senior services and assist them in developing strategic plans that addresses a senior's needs as well as addresses new generational cohorts; specifically, the silent generation.
