This clinical application dissertation examined the current literature on the efficacy of utilizing mindfulness meditation within police officer training to lessen the use of excessive force by increasing awareness and compassion within the line of duty. From the literature, a workshop incorporating mindfulness meditation exercises into daily police work, was created. Fifteen experts reviewed the workshop using a quantitative and qualitative feedback questionnaire. The quantitative ratings ranged from 1.31 to 2.40 (based on a 5-point Likert-type scale). Among the qualitative feedback, the expert reviewers provided their critique of the clinical application (PowerPoint presentation and handouts) based on its organization, accuracy of information, usefulness, practicality of implementation, cultural appropriateness, overall impressions, and any concerns. Their feedback highlighted the importance of understanding police work and culture more in-depth to maximize engagement with mindfulness meditation. Limitations of the clinical application and implications for future research and development are identified.
