In this dissertation, the researcher performs a content analysis of Joseph Parker's 166 Pentateuch sermons in The People's Bible to answer the question: Is there a statistical relationship between the text coverage and the Christocentric expository weight in Joseph Parker's lectio continua? Chapter 1 contains the thesis, research question, hypothesis, importance of the topic, introduction to Joseph Parker, and research methodology. In chapters 2-6, the researcher performs a uniform analysis on Parker's preaching through each of the five books of the Pentateuch (chapter 2: Genesis; chapter 3: Exodus; chapter 4: Leviticus; chapter 5: Numbers; chapter 6: Deuteronomy). The researcher employs a template designed to examine two primary variables within Parker's sermons. First, the analysis measures Parker's text coverage, to identify how thoroughly Parker expounds his preaching texts in consecutive fashion. Second, the analysis measures Parker's Christocentric expository weight to determine the expositional and Christocentric characteristics of his preaching. Having quantified the text coverage and Christocentric expository weight for Parker's sermons, the researcher compares these two primary variables to discover any relationships or patterns. Measurements and analyses of secondary variables are also considered, in order to glean even more insight into the relationship between Parker's text coverage and Christocentric expository weight. In chapter 7, the researcher concludes that a moderate direct relationship exists between the text coverage and the Christocentric expository weight in Joseph Parker's lectio continua of the Pentateuch in The People's Bible. The researcher suggests implications from his research in five areas: preaching the whole Bible as Christian Scripture, the theory and practice of lectio continua, long-term pulpit planning, the theory and practice of text selection, and the legacy of Joseph Parker. In summary, Parker is shown to be a helpful starting point model for Christocentric lectio continua. However, the researcher indicates ways today's preachers should strive to excel more than Parker. Finally, the researcher concludes the dissertation with suggestions of several areas of further research, within the field of Joseph Parker's works and within the field of Christocentric exposition.
