The United States has adopted ambitious targets to increase renewable energies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Renewable wind farms are opening in the Midwest and Southwest in record numbers. This study adds a new perspective to the advent of renewable wind farms when they are owned by foreign firms, particularly China. Chinese companies who purchase renewable wind farms are usually the works of Chinese State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) or monopolies in China owned by the Chinese government. The study surveyed 14 professionals with a background in energy who were asked about various policies towards renewable wind farms and their ownership. The quantitative analysis aimed to capture additional data from 86 random participants in the Southwest United States to find how much they knew about the farm's ownership and their approval rating if they are owned by foreign firms. The research seeks the difference in attitude between energy experts and Southwest residents. The results of this analysis demonstrate that, ceteris paribus, respondents had a lack of knowledge towards the ownership of renewables wind and solar farms and that their overall preference was that these energy sources should be mostly owned by U.S. energy companies or at least, its allies. The study did show that energy experts were a lot more tolerant for foreign owners buying renewable energy farms in the U.S. Added knowledge by U.S. citizens towards ownership of wind farms will be helpful especially if those are in close proximity to their residence. Future research is warranted toward what Chinese State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) are buying in the United States and in the Americas.
