The purpose of this quantitative quasi-experimental research was to determine if using data proven strategies, specifically in the areas of reading and writing instruction, would impact reading comprehension achievement in students in grades 3-7 in small, multi-grade classrooms. The research was based on a convenience study that involved 17 students, two classroom teachers and one principal, in a single multi-grade private school setting, in a state located in the eastern region of the United States. During the 2018-19 school year, students were given the Fall Iowa Assessment and the Spring Iowa Assessment. The study implemented a repeated measure design, using paired samples t-tests to determine difference in scores and significance of growth. Data were evaluated to determine the change between pretests and posttests of six subtests from the Iowa Assessment. Analysis of data indicated that all subtests, except for Written Expression, showed statistically significant difference in growth, and thus showed an increase in achievement results.
