The purpose of this research was to identify the additional training required for AML investigators as it relates to cryptocurrency. The study examined five Anti-Money Laundering certification programs and five of the cybersecurity certification programs. A recommendation was made focusing on each cybersecurity certification program examined. There were five recommendations made by extracting one module from each cyber certification. The research identified five limitations for this study found. The limitations were the level of expertise the certification programs targeted, the reality AML and cybersecurity are separate worlds, lack of regulation on cryptocurrency, deterrence, and the reality of AML investigators needing to be educated on cybersecurity issues such as network investigations. The research concluded with answering three main questions proposed from the beginning of the research. Why is it imperative for certification associations to cross train around cryptocurrency? Which programs can be adopted from the cybersecurity certifications into the AML certifications that can close the gap in training? What can be the future outcome of cross training in AML Certifications? Although the questions proposed were answered to the best of the researcher's ability, there are still a lot of information either unknown or currently being researched to truly close the gap in knowledge. The researcher offered suggestions on how to integrate AML and cybersecurity in regard to cryptocurrency focusing on the curriculum for AML certifications.
