The relationship between perfectionism and compulsive buying behavior was examined in this study as well as depression and stress to determine whether or not the latter mediate the linkage between perfectionism and compulsive buying behavior. This study tested emotional intelligence as a potential moderator between perfectionism and compulsive buying behavior. The participants were 912 college students from different disciplines in ten four-year universities. Participants competed the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, the Compulsive Buying Scale, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, and the Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Survey. The results revealed that perfectionism had direct effect on college students' levels of depression and stress and indirect effect on college students' compulsive buying behavior through depression and stress. Further analyses showed that emotional intelligence moderated the relationship between perfectionism and depression/stress as expected. On the contrary, no interactive relationship was found between emotional intelligence and depression/stress in predicting college students' compulsive buying behavior.
