This qualitative case study was a contribution to knowledge about: (a) the advantages and disadvantages of union organizations; (b) employee satisfaction in a unionized workplace; (c) union negotiations and their outcomes; and, (d) the use of management tools to improve team learning and organizational effectiveness in the workplace relevant to employee morale. The goal was to create more thriving and worker-friendly public services organizations in cities in Dade and Broward County, Florida. A semi-structured interview process containing open-ended questions for 21 employees of public service organizations in Dade and Broward Counties. The presence of a union in the workplace and their ability to address the concerns of public service employees and protect their benefits did not have a major impact on morale. Participants noted that even in non-union workplaces, management looks out for everyone and sought to build teamwork with their employees. However, there were some concerns from a few nonunion workers about them losing their job without any explanation because of the absence of a union. Participants also noted that team effort delivered greater service, and in return, gave the employees better salaries without union fees. Management's role in both union and nonunion work environment in making the jobs more efficient provided employees with many reasons to stay at their place of employment.
