The topic of this study was the development of leadership skills among female Hispanic community college student-athletes and to address and understand how female Hispanic community college student-athletes in athletics develop leadership skills. The purpose was to gain a better understanding of the development of female Hispanic community college student-athletes' leadership skills such as work ethic, fair play, time management, and collaboration, which could then be transferred to the corporate setting. One primary conceptual theory that drove the research was Achievement Goal Theory. Participants were divided into three groups of 15-20 participants each of coaches, student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Research question one was: To what extent did female Hispanic college student-athletes explain and describe how their experiences as an athlete influenced the development of leadership skills? Research question two was: Under what conditions did female Hispanic community college student-athletes describe the way leadership skills gained through participation in community college athletics influenced their athletic outcomes? Each participant asked to honestly respond to survey and questionnaires about their leadership traits and how they rated themselves. The results indicated that research question one was not so definite since the data indicated that leadership skills were claimed to have been developed in other areas other than athletics. Question two yielded similar responses where the team were dependent on the quality of the leader and not the actual development of their leadership skills. Potential implications of the study were that leadership sills development could arise from other areas other than athletics. Future research can incorporate other ethnic demographics using the same research design model in order to understand where athletics serves in the development of leadership skills.
