As workplace dynamics and structures have changed significantly in the wake of technology, global markets, and diverse generations there has been a growing need to understand the impact on the employee and the organization. The purpose of the present research study was to measure and analyze the collective and individual potential of the generational cohort, life satisfaction, and the leadership style of the manager to predict employee job satisfaction. The research details the significance of employee job satisfaction on organizational performance and success. Furthermore, it explores the factors that affect job satisfaction and commitment. Previous research focused on Baby Boomers and the lesser studied Generation X; however, the present study includes the growing Millennial workforce population. The present study expands knowledge of job satisfaction for the various generational cohorts and what factors may predict job satisfaction. The participants were obtained by a survey company to complete an online survey. The target population was full-time employees who have worked for the same manager for at least one year. A survey requirement was established to ensure all participants were members of one of the specified generations before being allowed to proceed with the survey. A total of 152 respondents including 8 Baby Boomers (5%), 58 Generation X (36.3%), and 86 Millennials (53.8%) participated in the survey. Multiple regression analysis performed with SPSS software was used to predict employee job satisfaction based on the three independent variables: generational cohort, life satisfaction, and leadership style of the manager. After survey participants answered questions to identify the respective generational cohort, there were questions from the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) to identify the perceived leadership style of the manager. Participants then completed the Satisfaction with Life Scale (LSS) questions and then finally the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. The study results of the multiple regression analysis revealed the variables and relationships that predicted employee job satisfaction.
