This executive position paper proposes the usage of an identification process, which includes research-based best practices and identification measures to utilize when identifying high achieving, elementary level students for an accelerated learning program. Extensive research was conducted to collect information on successful identification processes and assessment measures, currently used, to identify academically talented learners. An analysis and evaluation of the researcher's district's current identification process was also completed to compare research to current practices and identify gaps where improvements may be necessary to strengthen the process. The researcher synthesized literature and applied research-based evidence to develop an identification process that identifies students whose needs match the goals and objectives of the district's program for accelerated students.
