This master thesis explores the implementation of adolescent literature in the classroom setting. Firstly, this paper will define what is adolescent or typically known as "young adult" literature. By defining this genre, this thesis will examine how to introduce adolescent literature into the classroom as a way to "revamp" or evolve the literary canon typically taught in English classrooms today. Through this modern genre, students can relate to issues on a more personal level. Adolescent literature is also an effective approach to applying a new lense to classical texts. Taught with classic texts, young adult literature can show students themes in a newer fashion and how these themes are relevant in today's society. Overall, this thesis will examine how adolescent literature can be taught with classic texts in order to help students understand literature and how it relates to their world today.
