Sex education curricula in schools have largely ignored the needs of LGBTQIA+ students. There is a paucity of research in the sex education literature that looks specifically at how school-based sex education affects sexual health variables such as sexual distress, or sexual risk-taking behaviors in the LGBTQIA+ population. The current study aimed to fill this gap in the literature by having sexual minority college students complete a Qualtrics survey that inquired about numerous sexual variables in addition to questions regarding the type and quality of their sex education. Participants were recruited from the two largest universities at each of the 50 U.S. states. Analyses were conducted using multiple regressions to determine if there was a statistically significant relationship between inclusive or high-quality sex education and sexual health functioning. Results indicated that the inclusiveness of one's sex education did not predict sexual distress or sexual risk-taking behavior. Implications of the results and suggestions for future research are discussed.
