This study investigated Korean attitudes toward seeking professional mental health services among Christians and non-Christians. In particular, the study examined the effects of religiosity, public stigma, and self-stigma on attitudes toward seeking professional mental health services. Participants from nine schools, public institutions, and churches (N = 196) completed questionnaires measuring attitudes toward seeking professional help, religiosity, public stigma, and self-stigma. Pearson r correlation analysis, independent t test, and several multiple regression analyses of variance were used to investigate the relationship between attitude toward seeking professional help, religiosity, public stigma, and self-stigma. Correlations analysis found that both intrinsic religiosity (r = -.147, p < .05) and extrinsic religiosity (r = -.129, p < .05) had a negative association with the attitude toward seeking professional help. The independent t test found that non-Christians have a more favorable attitude toward seeking professional help, t(194) = -3.82, p < .05. The multiple regression analyses showed that factors (religiosity, public stigma, and self-stigma) accounted for a significant portion of the variance of Christians (adjusted R 2 = .102, F(4, 95) = 3.804, p < .05) and non-Christians (adjusted R 2 = .076, F(4, 91) = 2.961, p < .05). The significant factor related to attitudes toward seeking professional help among Christians was only intrinsic religiosity; and nonsignificant factors were extrinsic religiosity, public stigma, and self-stigma. The Significant factor related to attitudes toward seeking professional help among non-Christians was public stigma; and non-significant factors were intrinsic religiosity, extrinsic religiosity, and self-stigma.
