The primary purpose of this study was to examine the impact of leadership behaviors on organizational commitment within the Chinese Football Association Super League (CSL). More specifically, this study investigated the influence of head of business operation (HOB) transactional and transformational leadership behaviors perceived by position managers (PM) on organizational commitment within 16 teams of the CSL.This study proposed three primary hypotheses and seven sub-hypotheses. The subjects of interest were top position managers within the business operations department of the 16 CSL teams, with 122 individuals participating in the survey. The results were collected by using a mail data collection method and the questionnaires were administered by PMs, who were given specific instructions on how to complete the survey. The survey instruments were divided into three sections: a) Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) originally published by Bass and Avolio (1995); b) Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) originally published by Mowday et al. (1979); and c) Demographic Information Questionnaire. The MLQ (MLQ-5X-Short) was slightly altered and applied to measure the transactional and transformational leadership behaviors of HOBs. The transactional leadership section, composed of 12 questions, included three subscales: a) contingent reward (4); b) active management-by-exception (4); and c) and passive management-by-exception (4). The transformational leadership section, consisted of 20 questions, representing the following factors: a) charisma (8); b) inspirational motivation (4); c) intellectual stimulation (4); and d) individualized consideration (4). The OCQ was utilized to assess the PMs' perception of commitment to the organization. The OCQ, known as the world's most accepted instrument for assessing organizational commitment levels, included 15 statements which were descriptive in nature and required a response from the participant based on a seven-point Likert-style scale. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 25.0) was applied in order to analyze the data. First, descriptive statistics were employed to test hypothesis 1 and 2. Second, both simple and multiple regression analysis were implemented in order to test hypothesis 3.
