Chapter 1. Introduction -- Chapter 2. China's Economic Reform Pattern: Fundamentals of "Infinite" Transition -- Chapter 3. Resources, Trends and Goals of Chinese Military Modernization -- Chapter 4. Limits for Continuity and Change in Political Transformations -- Chapter 5. Conclusion.
"A significant contribution to our understanding of China's transition. These three Russian experts on China have written an insightful book at a time of ongoing change between China, a rising superpower, and the US, the incumbent superpower." - Premjith Sadasivan, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to the Russian Federation "A new stage of economic reform in China covers all aspects of China's life. It is important that they do not harm people and the environment, provide the people of China with decent living conditions and prosperity. This is the hidden message of this book." - Valdimir S. Myasnikov, Advisor to the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician This book examines the Chinese model of modernization in three key fields - economic, political and military. The explanations provided here, prepared by Russian analysts, are original because of the authors' first-hand knowledge of China and their unique professional experience. They share essential insights on China's model of modernization and its connections to both policy and practice. Focusing on the most vital issues surrounding modernization, and on its impacts on the most important spheres in China, the book offers a valuable asset for the analytical and policy-making community. Alexei D. Voskressenski, Professor Dr. Pol. Sc., Ph.D. (Victoria University of Manchester), Ph.D. (Institute of Far Eastern Studies), is currently Director of the Center for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects (MGIMO University) Mikhail Karpov, M.A. in Political Science (Central European University, Budapest (1994)), Ph.D. in World History (Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University (1995)), is an Associate Professor at the School of Asian Studies, College of World Economy and International Affairs at the Russian Higher School of Economics. Vasily Kashin is a senior research fellow at the Russian Higher School of Economics and an adjunct research lead at the Center for Comprehensive Chinese Studies and Regional Projects (MGIMO University) He is also a research lead at the Far Eastern Studies Institute North-East Asia Center, where he works as a contract researcher.
