Through a basic qualitative approach, the researcher of this instrumental case study explored the role of Iowa children's librarians within a public library engagement framework. A total of 14 participants participated in this study. During participant selection, library directors from small libraries responded to the pre-survey. To ensure that different sizes of libraries in the Iowa library system were represented, the study also included a total of four directors as participants. Engaging with families is not only a library administrators' responsibility, but it is a shared responsibility within each library system. The results from this study suggest that there are three components to a public library engagement framework, including programming, leadership quality, and partnerships. The results lead to specific recommendations including the need to narrow a specific library size, develop a family engagement policy, and evaluate a library's organizational structure.
