The Doctoral Performance and Research submitted by Dafydd Bevil, under the direction of Daniel Grabois at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Musical Arts consists of the following: I. Recording/Written Project: "From Screen to Concert Hall: Solo and Chamber Works for Horn" This full-length album and accompanying 51-page written project is an exploration into the concert pieces written by film composers which feature the horn. The album consists of seldom recorded works by Nino Rota, Bruce Broughton, Ennio Morricone, and John Williams. The written project contains a detailed history of the horn's role in film scores, analysis of each piece on the album, and an in-depth overview of the production process for the recording project.
