The purpose of this research study was to discover the experiences of organizational leaders who lead from a spiritual model without promoting a specific religion. Spirituality in the workplace is a growing phenomenon, yet research on organizational leaders who are also spiritual and lead from this perspective is lacking. This gap initiated the research question: What is the experience of organizational leaders who lead from a spiritual paradigm without promoting a specific religion? The generic qualitative inquiry was the research design used to uncover the experiences of individuals in the study. The sampling method for the study was a purposeful criterion design. The research population included organizational leaders and business owners in for-profit industries. The research sample consisted of five African Americans and five Whites with an age range of 45-60, and included one woman and nine men. Data analysis included thematic analysis for its suitability to generic qualitative analysis, and its flexibility for identifying, analyzing, and reporting themes. The results of this study indicate that organizational leaders have both similar and varied experiences leading from a spiritual paradigm. The findings also demonstrate how spirituality permeates each of the individual's leadership as participants found it difficult to lead in ways that conflicted with their core values. Participants also found that leadership from a spiritual paradigm required them to constantly evaluate and hone their spiritual awareness while developing a greater appreciation for employees' spirituality. They discovered that leading from one's core values could be beneficial in areas such as unity and teamwork as well as challenging since spirituality in the workplace is not always popular. Recommendations for future research include studies with more gender diversity, and participants from different religious backgrounds. Consideration for spiritual leadership research in regions other than the "Bible Belt" of America using a theoretical framework of transformation, servant, and spiritual leadership theories is also a recommendation.
