Elements of wellness and self-care tenants are strongly emphasized as a measure to deter harmful and unethical practices. This is especially true for novice/in-training rehabilitation counseling professionals, as the pressure of providing direct care and support services for individuals with diverse disabilities and impairments can present demanding and strenuous issues. Novice/in-training counseling professionals who experiencing ongoing pressure and stress often experience elements of burnout. Burnout is a prevalent issue in the counseling profession. Utilizing the intervention of supervision is a protective factor used in the profession to reduce the impact of burnout. The purpose of this current study was to gain insight and understanding of supervisors' perceptions of burnout among novice/in-training counseling professionals. The study included eight North Carolina counseling supervisors who provided supervision to novice/in-training rehabilitation counseling professionals who were prone to experience elements of burnout. The supervisors held diverse credentials that encompassed Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisors, Certified Rehabilitation Counselors, and Certified Clinical Supervisors. The counseling supervisors, through their participation in focus groups and individuals follow-up interviews provided through their responses, valuable facets of insight and understanding. The voices of the supervisors were categorized into the four themes which indicated how the counselor supervisors perceived elements of burnout among novice/in-training counseling professionals. Those four themes consist of the supervisors' knowledge and understanding of burnout, influences of burnout, measures of how burnout is address, and preventive measures for burnout. This research additionally offered implications and recommendations for future research as it relates to the elements of counseling, counselor education and supervision, and scholarship.
