The purpose of this cross-sectional quantitative study was to determine the factors that influence and/or predict attitudes of health and fitness practitioners (HFP) working with individuals with physical, and /or cognitive/sensory disabilities. The following three research questions were explored: (a How confident are health and fitness practitioners employed in the industry to work with individuals with physical, and/or cognitive/sensory disabilities based on previous educational training and past work experiences in the industry? (b Is the attitude of fitness practitioners to create programs for individuals with disabilities influenced by the work culture and/or atmosphere created by management/ownership of the health and fitness facility? (c What attributes of health and fitness practitioners best predict favorable intentions for working with individuals with physical, cognitive/sensory disabilities? There were 342 participants that completed the survey, but only 230 were retained for data analysis. Four national health and fitness organizations were involved in identifying potential health and fitness centers to participate in the study. Managers from each health and fitness center then distributed an email to employees inviting them to participate in the study by completing the online study survey. A survey (Attitudes of Health and Fitness Practitioners Toward Working with Individuals with Disabilities-AHFPTID) was created by modifying the Fitness Practitioner Survey developed by Susan Kasser (2013) to reflect working with individuals who have a variety of disabilities. The Employee Engagement Scale, developed by Brad Shuck, was added to the AHFPTID. The survey was based two theoretical models, the Theory of Planned Behavior (TpB) and the Employee Engagement Theory (EES).The results of the study indicated that the AHFPTID was found to be valid and reliable as an independent instrument. There were no significant findings in research question one. Previous work experience and past work experience did not statistically predict the confidence of HFP to work with those with disabilities. However, work culture and work atmosphere did statistically predict the attitude of HFP to work with individuals with disabilities. Age, employment status, emotional engagement, and physical engagement where found to be predictive of intentions of HFP to work with individuals with disabilities.
