This qualitative study sought to obtain a detailed description of the lived experiences of previous working professional women who made a career transition to stay at home on a full-time basis and raise their children in their role as the child's first teacher in the home. The study consisted of a series of three semistructured interviews conducted with 15 research participants. The primary research question that guided this study was, what are the shared experiences of stay-at-home mothers who previously engaged in paid employment outside the home but who have made a career transition from working mother to become the child's first teacher in the home? Interviews were designed to collect first-person reports of the life experiences of these women. They focused on the participants' life history, details of the career transition experience, and a reflection on the meaning of the lived experience of becoming the child's first teacher including the early learning experiences of their young infants and toddlers. The study utilized purposive sampling that allowed for the selection of a broad range of information and perspectives. Results of this study revealed (a) the early personal life experiences of these previous working professionals strongly influenced the desire to have children and become a stay-at-home mother and child's first teacher; (b) it was important to these women to teach and educate their children through modeling as well as through exposing their children to some formal or structured curriculum learning activities consistent with early childhood education concepts; and (c) many of the women relied on personal research of best or most common practices in the parenting and early learning experiences space when making decisions about the early childhood education experiences for their infants and toddlers. Despite some challenges and hardships experienced with this career transition, most women shared that they would do it again given their ability to personally influence the child's overall development and early learning experiences.
