The purpose of this phenomenological narrative study was to explore the involvement of reverse culture shock with Thai students who graduated from an international school in their home country of Thailand and then attended a Thailand university. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 Thai graduates of International Community School to learn about the experiences of these students (Creswell, 2013). The investigation explored themes of optimism, reentry shock, and adjustment of these students according to Gullahorn and Gullahorn's (1963) framework for reverse culture shock. The three research questions guiding the interviews were: How did the academic and social expectations of Thai dek inter compare to their experiences when attending a university in Thailand? How did reentry shock affect Thai dek inter during their attendance at university in Thailand? How did Thai dek inter characterize adjustments in their academic and social roles leading to success during their university experience in Thailand? Findings suggested the experiences of Thai graduates of international schools in Thailand experienced reverse culture shock when they attended university in Thailand. (Gullahorn & Gullahorn, 1963). Implications of this understanding indicate educators of host-country students at international schools should develop methods of supporting these students successfully through the reverse culture shock process they may move through when re-entering their home culture.
