Aftar (2016) explored the school experiences of deaf Malaysians from the perspectives of deaf individuals and found that parents' involvement was one of the important themes that emerged. Based on these findings, the current study attempted to further explore this phenomenon by interviewing parents' of deaf adult children to better understand the implementation and effectiveness of deaf education in Malaysia. Seven participants were interviewed and this study was conducted qualitatively using a phenomenological approach and framed within a constructivist paradigm viewpoint. For the purposes of ensuring the rigor of this qualitative approach, the researcher established progressive subjectivity by journaling, performing member checking and utilizing peer debriefers. Themes identified from data interviews were as follows: i. difficulty accepting deafness, ii. accommodations from a Malaysian point of view, iii. availability versus lack of resources and services, iv. poor academic performance and lower academic expectations when compared to hearing peers, v. sources of information with regards to deafness, school and services, and vi. expression of gratitude and focusing on strengths. Findings of this study are discussed in light of cultural and religious perspectives of deafness and disability.
