There have been questions on whether globalization can effectively help to impact positively the lives of people in the wake of increasing international trade. Therefore, this thesis purposes to explore on whether international trade has been successful in reducing poverty in East Asia. The paper begins by focusing on the economic growth as a result of international trade and how it relates to reduction of poverty. The countries that have been covered in this thesis are China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam. The findings from research indicate that the international trade has the potential of creating a level ground for countries to enhance themselves economically. Also, international trade has shown progressive increase of GDP for the mentioned countries as the average revenue per person also increased over years. More importantly, as part of studying how international trade helps in successfully reducing poverty, key parameters were considered and how they impact the level of poverty, and they included: Gini index, life expectancy level, GDP growth, GDP per capita, open trade, remittances and the unemployment rate. This paper found out that poverty is a global issue that can be effectively addressed through adjustment of GDP per capita and trade.
