The Internet has posed many dangers for children. With the increased usage of smartphones, computers, and the Internet, children are at risk for exploitation anywhere at any given time. The purpose of this research was to examine sextortion and sexual grooming tactics that children can be exposed to by sexual predators over the Internet that can put children at risk in the physical world. Results of this research concluded that a large number of children that fell victim to sextortion and sexual grooming felt embarrassed and guilty for falling for sexual predators' tricks. Many children felt they would get in trouble if they reported the scams inflicted on them. Evidence revealed children need to become better educated with the unfamiliar terms of sextortion and sexual grooming. In doing so, adults and society need to become aware of these continuous horrific acts that predators are inflicting on children and help children in identifying trends that predators may use. It is essential for society to understand that proactive measures have been enforced to keep children safe while online, but awareness is fundamental in preventing other children from being sexually exploited while online.
