This study examined how employee burnout and turnover are disruptive for child care businesses and impact the quality of care. Issues with turnover and how it affects the quality of care are apparent in research. Child care facility managers are unable to make informed business decisions or strategies without understanding the turnover-retention relationship. The purpose of this research was to examine how employee burnout and turnover impacts the child care industry. The research question was: How do causes of employee burnout and turnover influence the quality of care in the child care industry? Business leaders face an increase in cost and lower performance due to employee stress and turnover, which affects quality of care. The conceptual framework for this study consisted of a single holistic case study utilizing in-depth interviews as a means of exploring the phenomenon of burnout and turnover within the child care industry. The Maslach Burnout Inventory provided the foundation for the theory mentioned in this study. The participants in the study focused on low pay, lack of support, inequality, and work environment during the interviews. The sources of data were individual interviews, review of documentation, and observational notes. The participants in the study reflected on and discussed how certain factors related to the quality of care provided to the children in their care on a daily basis. Key findings that had the most impact on the quality of care provided by teachers were lack of support, inequality, and the work environment. The research contributed to the knowledge of business by resolving the business problem on the causes of employee burnout and turnover on a single child care business and how these causes affected the quality of care. Key findings were explained as certain dimensions of burnout, including lack of support, inequality, and work environment contributed to the lack of motivation needed in order for child care professionals to manage a classroom and effectively care for children. The research contributes to the business literature by providing business leaders with an assessment of how burnout and turnover affect the quality of care in the child care industry.
