This study used the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to determine whether a relationship exists between the acceptance of RFID technology and server-side security, and if so, whether the relationship was positive or not. The relationship was analyzed using a correlational, nonexperimental analysis by means of correlation to understand the relationship among the identified variables. Surveys were sent to U.S. based IT professionals between the ages of 25 and 65 years old who were involved in RFID implementation within the last three years and have knowledge of server-side security to gain insight into the user acceptance of this technology. The survey results were then analyzed using a stepwise multiple regression analysis to determine whether a positive correlation was present among the dependent variable of the acceptance of RFID technology, and independent variables of the behavioral intention of using server-side security, perceived ease of use of server-side security, and perceived usefulness of server-side security. The multiple regression analysis determined that the perceived ease of use of server-side security did not positively influence the acceptance of RFID technology, however, the perceived usefulness of server-side security and behavioral intention to use server-side security positively influenced the acceptance of RFID technology. These results imply that server-side security is more likely to be accepted when server-side security is perceived as useful by the users and when users have a behavioral intention of using server-side security, providing technology professionals valuable information regarding what security factors to focus on in the implementation of RFID technology.
