Research in the field of workplace bullying suggests that victims who experience bullying at work suffer either emotionally, psychologically, physically, or professionally in their careers. It is not known how teachers and supervisors perceive the influence of the two domains of workplace bullying - social dominance and negative acts - on the career growth and promotional opportunities of subordinate teachers. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the perceptions of teachers and supervisors of the influence of workplace bullying on the career growth and promotional opportunities of subordinate teachers in private schools in Karachi, Pakistan. Utilizing the theoretical framework of the social dominance theory and the affective events theory, a primary research question and four secondary research questions were used to investigate this phenomenon. Data were obtained using a questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and a focus group. Purposeful sampling was used to select 12 teachers and five supervisors. Six step thematic analysis was used to analyze data. Six themes emerged as findings: perceptions of bullying, perceptions of the influence of bullying on promotion, negative acts are detrimental to employee growth, schools as an organization, why bullying is tolerated in schools in Pakistan, and social dominance constitutes bullying. This study found that hierarchical structures in organizations, the power associated with rank, and affective events at work influence performance of employees. The results of the study revealed that teachers and supervisors perceived that workplace bullying influences the career and growth opportunities of subordinate teachers.
