This study evaluates the influence of serendipitous meeting places (social hubs) and the impact they have on creativity and innovation. This study, with 111 participants, ages 22-85, with experience in an office setting, set out to determine if there was a relationship between workspace design and creativity and innovation. Using the Situational Outlook Questionnaire (Isaksen, Lauer, & Ekvall, 1999), measurements of the climate for creativity were collected, analyzed, and compared to determine if there were positive relationships associated with workspace design. The study found that there was a significant correlation between the presence of serendipitous meeting places (social hubs) within organizations and eight (trust, freedom, idea support, risk-taking, challenge, conflict, playfulness, idea time, debate) out of the nine measurements of climate for creativity. Conflict was the only measurement that had a negative correlation.
