Thesis (D.Min.)--Seattle University, 2018.
This project examines how chaplains experience changes in their own faith as a result of their encounters with patients who are ill or dying. It discusses. as well, chaplains' repeated exposure to secondary trauma. This qualitative study uses a heuristic. phenomenological approach to analyze data from self-reported chaplain narratives gained during semi-structured interviews. Study findings may stand in contrast to psychological or sociological approaches often used to measure repeated trauma exposure. The qualitative study results suggest a unique mechanism for spiritual growth available to those engaged in chaplaincy.
