520 $a Its general objective is to identify the political values that are taught to children in Ontario and in China. The specific hypothesis of the study is that children's books in both societies reflect the dominant political ideologies and are used as instruments for political socialization.
520 $a The principal method used in the study was a content analysis of the stories, songs and poems in books for elementary school children in each society. A review of literature on the political cultures of the societies was used to establish the dominant political ideologies.
520 $a The study indicates that the dominant values in the schoolbooks of Ontario reflect liberal-conservatism, while those in China reflect socialist-conservatism.
