The Entrepreneurial Attitude Orientation Scale (EAO) and an entrepreneurial motivation questionnaire were used to study the attitudinal and motivational characteristics of Chinese entrepreneurs. Two groups of subjects included Chinese entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs. Robinson's data on American entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs were used for further exploration and comparison. The results show that money, success and independence are important motives for Chinese entrepreneurs. The motivation for money has a negative correlation with education level. Chinese entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs do not show difference on demographic characteristics, but are different on entrepreneurial attitudes. Affective locus of control, conative and cognitive innovative attitude are important for Chinese entrepreneurship. Achieving attitude correlates with the motivation for success, independence and higher social status, but does not correlate with the motivation for money. Self-esteem has a negative correlation with the motivation for higher status. Innovative attitude correlates with the motivation for independence and higher social status. Conative self-esteem and conative locus of control are important for American entrepreneurship. Cultures have significant effects on entrepreneurial attitudes.Subjects--Topical Terms:
