Thesis (Ed.D.)--Nova Southeastern University, 2017.
Due to proposed eligibility changes in GPA requirements by the Florida High School Athletics Association (FHSAA), many of the student-athletes at the research site will become ineligible to participate in sports because of low GPA. The study was designed to investigate the benefits of teacher-coach collaboration working as cross-functional teams to achieve academic success for the student-athletes. The focus of the study was on variables relating to teacher-coach belief in student-athletes. The study also investigated additional variables including teacher-coach characteristics (knowledge, skills, and abilities).

A quantitative methodology with a quasi-experimental research approach was employed to determine the effects of the six variables. A pre- and posttest design was administered to collect data. SPSS was used to calculate descriptive statistics to measure central tendencies in the data and trends in the sample. Inferential statistics were used to test hypothesis about the population using a paired-sample t test.

The results of the teacher-coach collaboration showed minor statistically significant effects on the six variables studied as they relate to teachers and coaches. Also, there was an overall improvement in the GPA scores of the student-athletes following the intervention. Sixty-four percent of the male student-athletes and fifty percent of the female student-athletes showed improvements in their GPA scores.
