Thesis (Ph.D.)--Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2018.
Chapter 1 contains the introduction to the dissertation including an explanation of the thesis that a more holistic approach to christological preaching is needed. Because of the uniqueness of the three approaches (Christocentric, Christotelic, and Christiconic), each term will be defined early on.

Chapter 1 contains the introduction to the dissertation including an explanation of the thesis that a more holistic approach to christological preaching is needed. Because of the uniqueness of the three approaches (Christocentric, Christotelic, and Christiconic), each term will be defined early on.

Chapter 2 contains the biblical foundations for the concept of christological preaching in general. This chapter begins with Jesus' approach to teaching about Christ from the OT by discussing the Emmaus Road encounter of Luke 24. Then, the approaches of Peter, Paul, and the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews will be surveyed.

Chapter 3 contains the historical foundations for christological preaching beginning with the conclusion of the NT. Five periods will be surveyed including the Patristics, the Middle Ages, the Reformation, the Evangelical Age, and the Modern Era. The chapter will conclude with contemporary examples of christological preaching.

Chapters 4, 5, and 6 will share a similar framework applied to the three different approaches of christological preaching. Each chapter will begin with an explanation of the method followed by a demonstration of that approach as applied to Gen 22:1--19. Finally, each chapter will conclude with a thorough evaluation of that model's strengths and weaknesses. Chapter 4 considers Christocentric preaching as defined and modeled in the works of Sidney Greidanus. Chapter 5 then considers Christotelic preaching as presented by Paul Enns and exemplified in the dissertation of Yufang Leanne Luo-Rapier. Chapter 6 considers Christiconic preaching based on the model of Abraham Kuruvilla.

Chapter 7 concludes with a summary of findings for each approach. Theological and pastoral implications will be offered based on those conclusions. The goal of the dissertation is to offer a more holistic approach to christological preaching based on the results. The final chapter will present a recommended way forward and suggest how it might be applied to additional passages of the OT.
