Thesis (Ps.D.)--Widener University, 2017.
Individuals suffering from eating disorders have significant physical and mental impairments. The complicated nature of this disorder requires complex, multidisciplinary, and long-term treatments that combine multiple therapeutic principles (Morris & Twaddle, 2007; Yager et al., 2012). Complementary health approaches, such as yoga and mindfulness, may be helpful in providing additional support to patients with and at risk for eating disorders. Yoga and mindfulness have been suggested to promote stress management, present moment awareness, interoceptive learning, and a path for self-inquiry (Douglass, 2011). HIVE, a group intervention program, will integrate yoga, mindfulness, and group processing to support individuals with eating disorders. This paper will discuss the underlying goals and proposed implementation of this unique program.
