The purpose of this study was to better understand the experience of post-collegiate individuals who frequently use telephone dating applications. At the time of the study there was little research that addressed the general experience of online dating and how it can affect the daily lives of daters. For this reason, the research question was: What is the lived experience of high-volume dating application users? To answer this question 14 participants were interviewed and their narratives were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) and grounded theory. Twenty-one themes were identified with a category of moderately robust, and robust, which were comprised of the themes that were endorsed the most strongly. Findings of the study suggest that dating application users treat fellow dating application users as lesser than individuals they might meet organically. Findings also suggest that current dating application users often act inauthentically towards their dates, for fear that their genuine selves will not be perceived as good or acceptable.
