Thesis (M.A.)--Pacifica Graduate Institute, 2018.
Throughout time, nature has been a spiritual destination to begin a healing journey. The natural environment allows for greater focus and flow in both the therapist and the client. A growing body of literature shows that therapy complemented by exposure to natural forces results in improved physical mental health, spiritual expansion, and unity of body and mind. Utilizing the alchemical hermeneutic methodology, this thesis seeks to examine the benefits of nature therapy, define the role of ecotherapy, examine the benefits and limitations of its application, and identify how it can be used in conjunction with conventional modalities. Findings show that individuals who are attracted to nature therapy are more likely to connect with others and the environment, to embrace themselves, and to disregard external pressures as they create their own therapeutic experience from being at one with nature.
