Thesis (Ed.D.)--Texas Southern University, 2017.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship and predictability of selected demographic and school related factors on the disciplinary actions of public school students. More specifically, this study was concerned with the predictability of the variables: ethnicity; gender; SES; and the presence of a disability on disciplinary actions (exclusionary and non-exclusionary). Additionally, the investigation was concerned with the predictability of the variables school level and school rating on disciplinary actions (exclusionary and non-exclusionary) on public school students. Furthermore, the researcher proposed to answer the following questions: (1) Do the demographic factors have any predictive power on the disciplinary actions of public school students? (2) Do the school related factors have any predictive power on the disciplinary actions of public school students?

This empirical investigation consisted of 300 public school students enrolled in elementary and secondary (to include middle) schools in an urban public school district in the southern region of the United States. The PEIMS database was used to collect the data. A Standard Logistic Regression statistical design was employed to analyze the data for this study. All hypotheses were tested at the .05 level of significance or better.

Among the conclusions of this study were: (1) Gender was a significant independent predicator of disciplinary actions among public school students. (2) Male public school students were more likely to receive exclusionary disciplinary actions than their female counterparts. (3) School rating was found to be a significant independent predictor of disciplinary actions among public school students.
