Thesis (D.B.A.)--Golden Gate University, 2017.
In this paper, we will discuss the past historical development, current progress, and potential reforms taken toward the internationalization of the Renminbi, the Chinese currency. Several statistical methods were used to explore the inherent strengths and weaknesses in the progress. Several regression analysis tests yielded significant results supporting the view that the CNY (onshore yuan/renminbi) exists as a free-floating currency. Evaluations were made between the CNY and CNH (offshore yuan/renminbi) Further results demonstrate that RMB-denominated trade and assets are growing over the long-term. A module was used to show that FDI/FPI (Foreign Direct Investment/Foreign Portfolio Investment) impact the dual offshore/onshore RMB differently. We propose an alternative multiple regression approach that explores market liquidity through FDI/FPI inflows and the CNH-CNY spread as a proxy of market volatility. Lastly, current relevant global issues relating to RMB internationalization are discussed. This research may benefit corporate business managers of both private and public firms, helping them to identify and to take action to benefit their organizations. This research may also be of value to equity and debt investors, providing them with timely and accurate analysis when taking investment and trade settlement decisions. Lastly, the results should be of value to managers in assessing ongoing trade settlement, investment, and reserve concerns.
