Thesis (Ed.D.)--University of Pennsylvania, 2017.
The purpose of this study is to explore the perceived influence of two emotional intelligence competencies, self-awareness and self-management, on the individual's ability to receive performance feedback in large organizations. This study aims to develop an understanding of the main intrapersonal and interpersonal processes that may influence the individual's ability to receive performance feedback. It is inspired by the researcher's belief that individuals can better influence the course of their performance feedback and own development if they are equipped with key emotional intelligence competencies for their performance management processes and experiences. Additional research is needed to explore and understand the emotional intelligence competencies that may allow employees to receive, interpret, accept, and learn from performance feedback. This qualitative study explores the preconceptions and perceptions of one group of upper-middle managers regarding their formal conversations and experiences with traditional performance feedback and the potential influence of the mentioned emotional intelligence competencies to improve their ability to receive feedback.
