Historical research demonstrated a divide between practitioners 'perceptions of evidence-based and complementary medicine practitioner's care for their patient consumers. Too often, the integrative collaboration of the two worlds of healthcare leave the patient consumer in a lurch. A marked opportunity of collaboration through health literacy can embolden integrative medicine's future. The purpose of this study was to begin bridging the gap of research and consumer health literacy programs and services based in complementary and alternative medicine that can be better absorbed into integrative medicine. This Delphi study brought together acupunctural practitioners, researchers, and professional governance body representatives in a conversation that addressed establishing the integrative and referral base of complementary and alternative medicine and mainstream health care. A panel of acupuncturists were agreeable to themes concerning acupunctural education ideas and what professional leadership will need to embody in this study. Themes obtained from the expert panel included ideas of leadership, development, improving perceived consumer influence, and starting the conversation of the future services of this complementary and alternative medicine modality and health literacy efforts.
